Reclining Territorial Figure

Plywood, sheet metal
245 x 74 x 30 cm

The Swedish map lies across the landscape leaning against a sharp pyramid made out of sheet metal. The sculpture points to its location on the map of Sweden while simultaneously testing the ground beneath it. The work draws on a 1947 experiment by the magazine ALLT and researchers from KTH, who sought to determine Sweden’s geographical center by balancing a jigsaw-cut model of the country on a sharp point.
Echoing this method, the figure reclines not in surrender, but in inquiry of its own conditions.
